The City of Blackwell is a close-knit community of neighbors who care about each other and who come together to enjoy hometown traditions and demonstrate their community pride. There is an energy and optimism here that makes Blackwell stand apart. Its leaders and its citizens are working hard every day to improve the lives of local families and their futures. Freeport-McMoRan shares the City's commitment to the community of Blackwell with local elected officials, civic groups, business leaders and the Blackwell Chamber of Commerce. We support the community's efforts to strengthen Blackwell's prospects for a bright future and promote Blackwell as a great place to live, work, and raise a family. In addition to our clean up efforts, we are committed to supporting local schools, businesses, non-profits and local traditions. Through both formal and informal methods, we seek input from the public regarding priority community issues and needs in Blackwell. We use this feedback to inform our social investment and charitable giving partnerships and decisions. This not only supports the development of strong and meaningful relationships with community members, but also facilitates the best use of our charitable financial resources.
Teachers and SchoolsNew Technology in Blackwell Schools The new boards were made possible by two $29,000 grants from the Freeport-McMoRan Foundation. The foundation believes it is important to support Blackwell teachers in their effort to strengthen and expand opportunities for young people to learn and excel in education. Classroom Visits Generally, these are one-hour presentations that include a question and answer period; however, presentations can be customized to meet the school program format or specific classroom needs. For older students, teachers can download this resource, which is a detailed explanation of the copper mining process.
